The Kinship of Difference
Making space for difficult conversations.
The Kinship of Difference was announced for 27 August 2026 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Carlingford. Hosted by Tommy for Artsawonder, it was planned as the closing session of the Thomas D’Arcy Magee Summer School, exploring migration, integration and neighbourliness.
Making room for different experiences
Public interviews, music and poetry were to bring together people affected by migration and people who had protested about it. Tommy’s stated aim was to encourage conversation beyond those who already agreed with one another.
The announced contributors
The panel included Tinu Achioya of Cultúr Migrants Centre, Belfast City of Sanctuary’s Israel Eguaogie, Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri, philosopher and sean-nós singer Tura Arutura, Shankill community activist Spencer Beattie and human-rights scholar Ron Dudai. Their work brought different community, cultural and religious perspectives to the proposed discussion.
About this account
The programme described a 2pm–4.30pm forum combining reflection with the arts. These details come from Newry.ie’s advance announcement of 17 August; they describe the planned event rather than a retrospective account of the discussion.
