Music within a gathering for peace and justice.

Afri’s 2023 annual report records Tommy’s musical contribution to its thirtieth Féile Bríde, themed Darkness Dawning Light. Contributors included Máiréad Maguire, Adi Roche, Alma Clavin and Ruby Jo Cowdell, with music also from Luka Bloom and Justine Nantale and her band.

Thirty gatherings for peace

The thirtieth Féile Bríde was announced for 4 February 2023 at the Solas Bhríde Centre in Kildare town. Under the theme Darkness, Dawning, Light, its programme brought music together with speakers, discussion and informal conversation.

Voices and music together

Afri’s annual report records contributions from Máiréad Maguire, Adi Roche, Alma Clavin and Ruby Jo Cowdell. Tommy was among the musicians, alongside Luka Bloom and Justine Nantale and her band. The report places their music within a gathering concerned with peace and justice, rather than a standalone concert.

The wider work of Afri

Afri describes its work in terms of peace, human rights, global justice and sustainability. Féile Bríde provides one of the meeting places for that work. The 2023 gathering also coincided with Ireland’s first official holiday honouring Brigid, whom Afri’s reflection presents as a figure of peace and care for the planet.
